The considerations which led him to design the publication of a history of the Dublin Society are mentioned in the preface, and during the last year of his life, notwithstanding much weakness, the work was constantly in his thoughts, and its progress was watched by him with solicitude. His portrait will be found opposite p. 287, where it was placed at his desire instead of being made the frontispiece as the author had intended.
